About Me
Born in Bristol in 1984, I spent the first twenty years of my life in a small town called Chepstow on the Welsh border. Eager to start my own journey, I left school at 17 and began working in construction alongside my father to earn money. My goal was to move out of my family home and have my own apartment.
After five years in the construction industry, an opportunity arose to start a new life in the mountains of Spain. This was a dream come true for me, as I had always wanted to live off the grid and build my own ecology house. With my savings of 10,000 euros, I embarked on this new adventure.
Living among the forests and animals in the mountains was truly amazing, but it also came with its challenges. The lack of running hot water and electricity, especially during the winters, made life difficult. Despite these hardships, I cherished the experiences and life lessons this lifestyle brought.
At the age of 30, I ran a small volunteering program to seek assistance with establishing my forest gardens. It was during this time that I met a Danish woman. After months of contact, mostly via email, I decided to visit her in Copenhagen. Shortly after, we made the decision for her to join me in Spain.
Five months later, my partner found the lifestyle in Spain challenging. She proposed the idea of starting a new life together in Denmark, renting an old farm and building our own small farm. I faced numerous rejections while applying for jobs in Denmark, which left me feeling deeply unhappy and depressed. I struggled with the sense of being useless in a society that valued traditional employment.
Inspired to take matters into my own hands, I decided to start a fruit and vegetable business. I would grow produce and deliver boxed orders to the local community. It was during this time that I still consumed animal products and thought of keeping chickens on the farm for eggs to consume and potentially sell. In search of chickens, I stumbled upon a farm with unimaginable horrors.
Filthy barns housed donkeys and ponies tied up in small stalls used solely for breeding. These animals received no love or care and were eventually sent off to slaughter. Amongst them, I saw a tiny black donkey baby next to its mother, who was as big as a horse. They appeared sad and scared, and in that moment, I made a decision to help and save them from their suffering.
This marked the beginning of my mission to create an animal sanctuary. I named it “Fields of Freedom” and started a Facebook page to raise awareness and funds to save the donkey family. With this, Fields of Freedom Animal Sanctuary was born, and my life changed forever.
From that day forward, not only did I dedicate my life to rescuing and providing sanctuary for animals, but I also made the choice to go vegan, eliminating animal products from my diet. The journey ahead was filled with challenges, but my commitment to the animals and creating a better world for them remains unwavering.
